Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores (COGGS) is a nonprofit mountain bike advocacy organization serving the Twin Ports area of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Established in 1994, the 501(c)(3) organization builds, maintains, and advocates for more than 120 miles of trails across Duluth, Superior, and nearby communities. Its network has earned Gold Level Ride Center recognition from the International Mountain Bicycling Association.
COGGS is committed to sustainable trail development, equitable access, and a welcoming outdoor recreation culture. Its trails are free and open to all non-motorized users, including mountain bikers, e-bikers where permitted, runners, hikers, dog walkers, and bird watchers. The organization shares trail conditions, safety guidance, and information about destinations such as the Duluth Traverse and Lester Bike Park. It also promotes trail improvements, including plans for the Lester Pump Track and Bicycle Playground.
Community participation is central to COGGSβs work. The organization offers volunteer trail-work opportunities, events, membership, donations, trail sponsorships, and merchandise. Through education, programming, partnerships, and hands-on stewardship, COGGS helps people enjoy and care for the regionβs trails.
