About Cojolya Association of Maya Women Weavers
Cojolya Association is a socially conscious brand that operates under the principles of Fair Trade. As an organization, they are monitored by the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) Guarantee System. Established in 1996, Cojolya was born out of the union, strength, and resilience of indigenous artisans in Santiago Atitlán, Sololá, Guatemala.
It was founded during the Civil War with the aim of supporting women who were victims and affected by the conflict. Today, the association empowers these indigenous artisans to improve their quality of life and preserve the art of waist loom weaving. Cojolya offers a range of high-quality handmade products that are designed for socially conscious consumers who appreciate current trends and modern aesthetics.
Their online store provides a platform for these artisans to access fair and global markets. Additionally, Cojolya has a social program called Mano a Mano para el Desarrollo that aims to support the personal and family development of the artisans. To stay updated on their progress, programs, and new products, you can subscribe to their newsletter.
