CollarID, developed by New Lens Labs, makes lightweight, solar-powered wildlife collars that combine GPS tracking with continuous acoustic monitoring and other environmental sensors. Designed for long-term field research, the Mk II weighs 155 grams and records audio, motion, location, air quality, humidity, temperature, and light on a shared timeline. Researchers can tailor recording schedules and sensor use to a study’s needs and power budget, while context-aware GPS adjusts fix rates to animal activity.
CollarID supports data access through onboard memory, radio reporting, optional camp gateways, and a handheld receiver that can locate collars without a network. Its web and mobile tools let teams configure schedules, review status, and update settings remotely. The rugged enclosure is designed for demanding conditions and has been tested against animal bites and pressurized-water exposure.
The platform has been deployed with species including spotted hyenas, cattle, goats, and domestic dogs. New Lens Labs offers Mk II collars for purchase, with deployment-specific consultations and quotes.
