Collateral Maris Festival

Collateral Maris is a festival of arts and landscapes held in Vieste, on the Gargano peninsula in Italy. It brings experiential, visual, plastic and performing arts into close conversation with the surrounding environment, treating the territory as both a stage and an essential part of the artistic experience. The festival’s program has featured acoustic concerts by the sea, readings at the harbour, music performed from a boat, dance among traditional fishing structures and historic towers, storytelling in gardens, and visual works set among fields and the old town’s streets and squares.

By limiting scenic barriers between audiences, performances and landscape, Collateral Maris encourages visitors to become active participants and experience art in direct connection with nature and place. Its guiding aims include fostering a relationship between people, the environment and art, and promoting environmental and human sustainability. The festival is promoted by the Collateral association, a group of friends supporting cultural initiatives in Vieste and giving voice to people and places through artistic, civic and territorial expression
