Colony Stores | Christchurch is a brand with a rich heritage that dates back to 1860. It all began when Louisa emigrated from Prussia to New Zealand with her family. After marrying Johan Hansen in 1868, they started their new life together in Thames and opened their first merchant store.

Over the years, the business grew and became a key part of the growing town. The Hansen family's passion for bees and natural health has been passed down through the generations. They established a sustainable farming community called Beeville that focused on ethical and healthy living.

Today, Colony Stores continues this legacy by offering a range of delicious honey under the Honeymeisters, Ginger Bee, and Beeville brands. They have also recently launched the Rob's Heritage range of spreads to honor their family history. In March 2021, Colony Stores opened their Christchurch store at The Crossing, showcasing their New Zealand products and crafted honey.
