Column of Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation established in 2004 to advance research into Chiari malformation, syringomyelia, neuropathic pain, spinal cord injury, and related conditions. Its mission is to support better understanding, treatments, and ultimately cures, while helping people learn about these conditions and the research addressing them.
Built through community fundraising, the foundation reports raising more than $1 million for research and directing 98% of donations to research and sponsored research conferences. Since 2007, it has supported the work of Dr. Marcus Stoodley’s team at Macquarie University and Neuroscience Research Australia, including research into syringomyelia and outcomes of Chiari surgery. The foundation cites 48 peer-reviewed studies and AU$1.7 million in NHMRC grants secured.
Column of Hope invites supporters to make one-time or monthly donations, contribute through planned giving or corporate matching, volunteer, and sponsor its work. It also shares research updates, educational resources, events, and information about the conditions it supports, connecting patients and the wider community with ongoing scientific progress.
