Comfort Centre Leicester is a registered charity supporting children living with sickle cell disease (SCD), thalassemia and other blood-related disorders in Leicester and Leicestershire. Its mission is to improve children’s health and quality of life while challenging stigma, discrimination and misconceptions about SCD. The organisation also seeks to address the psychosocial needs of affected children and their families, offering hope, comfort and support.
The charity gathers voluntary contributions and invests in local solutions to help meet children’s needs. Its work includes supporting access to treatment, including bone marrow or stem cell transplantation, described as the only potential cure for sickle cell anaemia, as well as medications such as antibiotics, pain-relieving medicines and hydroxyurea. Through awareness and community engagement, Comfort Centre Leicester aims to encourage understanding and reduce the isolation experienced by people affected by the disease.
The charity is based at Pegasus House, 17 Burleys Way, Leicester, and is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
