Commissionaires is Canada's largest private sector employer of veterans and the only national not-for-profit security company. Founded in 1859 by Captain Edward Walter, a retired officer of the Crimean War, the Corps of Commissionaires was established to help veterans transition back into civilian life and employment. Inspired by the British Corps, the Canadian version was proposed by the Governor General of Canada in 1915 to provide employment opportunities for soldiers returning from the First World War.

Since its founding in 1925, the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires has grown to become a leading security provider, with offices in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. Today, Commissionaires employs over 22,000 men and women across Canada, including 4,500 veterans from the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP. They offer outstanding security and related services to federal and provincial facilities, municipalities, police services, air and seaports, commercial buildings, and homes.
