Communities Choosewell

Communities ChooseWell is a free provincial program of the Alberta Recreation & Parks Association that supports the wellbeing of people across Alberta. It works with community champions, organizations and municipal governments to make healthy eating and active living easier choices for everyone. The program helps communities transform local practices, places, policies and partnerships through practical resources, funding, learning opportunities and connections.

Its offerings include guidance on healthy eating in recreation settings, community development funding, Healthy Community Grants and information about external funding sources. Communities can also take part in eCourses, workshops, mentorship and peer learning networks, webinars, events and the Alberta Healthy Communities Symposium. The program shares community stories, maintains a community map and promotes a Healthy Communities Framework, while recognizing local achievements through awards and other celebrations.

Communities ChooseWell highlights initiatives addressing issues such as active transportation, food access and community connection. The program is currently paused while it awaits confirmation of future funding; updates will be shared when available.
