Community S2 is a county-level situational awareness service from Forward Observer, an organization that says it has worked at the national level since 2014. Its purpose is to help people understand what is happening in their county through a daily workspace combining local information, public data and mapping. The service covers all 3,143 US counties, parishes, boroughs and census areas, with county maps, federal data layers, voting information and address-level readiness reports. Hand-researched local news sources are available for the largest 200 counties, with coverage being extended.

Community S2’s tools include a local news wire, civic calendar, demonstrations and election information, alongside weather, drought and population data. Its live 3D county map can show boundaries, infrastructure and state traffic-camera feeds where available. Address reports assess hazards, flood history, nearby emergency response, schools, crime and vulnerability. Data is drawn from public agencies and sources including FEMA, the Census Bureau, the National Weather Service, USGS and EPA. S2-Standard costs $249 per year.
