About CCRED
Introducing CCRED, the Centre for Competition, Regulation, and Economic Development, a leading university research group at the University of Johannesburg. Established in 2011, CCRED is a hub of knowledge and information on competition, regulation, and economic development. Originally known as CCE, it initially focused on research and teaching in the field of competition economics. However, its scope has expanded to include economic regulation and economic development across southern and East Africa.
CCRED's research covers three main themes. First, they analyze competition and barriers to entry, exploring the challenges and opportunities faced by businesses in various sectors. Second, they investigate regional value chains, particularly in agro-processing, light industry, and mining-related industries. Lastly, they examine local industrial development and inclusive growth, exploring the relationship between economic regulation, development policies, and competition.
CCRED publishes their research, conducts conferences and seminars, and offers learning programs for both students and professionals. Headed by Dr. Thando Vilakazi, their team includes experienced competition economists and research fellows. Guided by a governing board, CCRED is dedicated to advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration in the field of competition and economic development.
