Compost Technical Services provides education, consulting, and practical resources to help communities turn organic materials into valuable local fertility. Its work focuses on community-scale composting and food scrap recycling, supporting the use of materials such as leaves, grasses, and manures as alternatives to petroleum-based fertilizers. The organization offers composting consultation and education, helps clients explore food scrap recycling options, and provides information about compost technical assistance programs in Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, and beyond.

At the heart of its educational resources is Community-Scale Composting Systems, a book by James McSweeney that explains how to develop composting approaches at a community level. Visitors can purchase the book and listen to its introduction as a free audiobook. The site also presents the 131° School of Composting, alongside resources intended to help people compost with confidence and realize the potential of organic materials. Based in Arlington, Massachusetts, and Worcester, Vermont, Compost Technical Services encourages practices that can enrich soil and strengthen local approaches to managing organic resources.
