About Compton Abbas Airfield
Compton Abbas Airfield is a scenic aviation destination in Dorset, set on a hill in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with views across Shaftesbury and the surrounding countryside. Owned by film director Guy Ritchie, the airfield reflects a shared enthusiasm for heritage aviation and the local landscape. Visitors can arrive by air or land to enjoy the setting, watch light aircraft come and go, and see historic aircraft. The airfield also hosts events, including Warbird and Aerobatic Days, and seasonal celebrations such as its annual fireworks displays.
At the heart of the visitor experience is Lore of the Sky, the airfield’s restaurant and bar. It serves low-and-slow-cooked food, including authentic Texas barbecue prepared on site in a large smoker, alongside drinks and a welcoming atmosphere. The Smoking Barrels offers an informal outdoor option on selected days. Guests can book tables online or by phone, and the venue welcomes families and visitors whether or not they arrive by plane.
