About Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa
Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) is a renowned brand that supports local governments in their fight against climate change and efforts to provide clean energy access. As the regional chapter of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate Action and Energy, CoM SSA is a major catalyst for local climate action in the region. With political commitment from over 350 local governments, CoM SSA helps cities move from planning to implementation while focusing on unlocking climate finance at the local level.
This European Union (EU) initiative not only supports the external dimension of the European Green Deal but also strengthens the Africa-EU partnership and supports the African Union Commission's Agenda 2063. CoM SSA works through three pillars of action: planning support, project development, and knowledge exchange and partnerships. The brand provides various resources, training workshops, and technical support to signatories, empowering them to develop Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SEACAPs) and achieve a low-emission, climate-resilient, and sustainable energy future
