About Coney Island History
The Coney Island History Project is a nonprofit organization established in 2004, dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich legacy of Coney Island. Located adjacent to Deno's Wonder Wheel, the Project's exhibition center hosts a variety of engaging and educational exhibits that showcase the area's vibrant history. Visitors can explore historic artifacts, photographs, documents, and films that illustrate the captivating story of this iconic New York neighborhood.
The Project features both indoor and outdoor exhibits, including interactive displays and opportunities to photograph notable attractions such as the original Steeplechase horse. Special exhibits, like those highlighting urban and natural aspects of Coney Island, run throughout the season, which spans from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The organization also offers a multilingual Oral History Archive, a podcast titled Coney Island Stories, and educational programs designed to promote local history and community engagement. The Coney Island History Project is committed to honoring the past while fostering appreciation for the community's present.
