Confederates from Iowa is a history-focused website and author platform dedicated to uncovering the experiences of Iowans who served the Confederacy during the Civil War. Its central work, Iowa Confederates in the Civil War, examines the lives of 76 identified individuals, including doctors, lawyers, merchants, and farmers. The book explores why they left Iowa to serve on the opposing side, the personal and political pressures surrounding their choices, and the challenges some faced when returning after the war.
Topics include loyalty, imprisonment, desertion, family relationships, and the impact of wider events such as the Panic of 1857. The site offers information about the book, including pre-order links through retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound, and Hudson Booksellers, along with advance praise from historians and cultural leaders. Visitors can also learn about the author, view a press kit, follow events, and inquire about speaking engagements.
A regularly updated blog features Civil War history, research, book reviews, author interviews, and related historical commentary
