Control Debt

Control Debt is a South African debt counselling service that helps consumers experiencing over-indebtedness work toward financial recovery and a return to the credit market. Its debt review process is regulated by the National Credit Act and is designed to help protect consumers’ assets while addressing outstanding debts. A registered debt counsellor assesses each applicant’s financial circumstances, gathers information from credit providers, and negotiates where possible for lower interest rates and more affordable instalments.

If the consumer qualifies, a repayment plan is submitted for approval through a court order. Consumers then make one combined monthly payment, which a payment distribution agency allocates among their credit providers. Control Debt also communicates with creditors on the consumer’s behalf and provides monthly statements to help track payments and balances.

When debts are fully repaid, the counsellor obtains paid-up letters and issues a clearance certificate. The company offers a free debt assessment and credit report to help determine eligibility for debt review. Consumers can enquire by phone or email and submit their details confidentially
