Coopeos is a citizen-owned cooperative that develops local, sustainable heating solutions using wood resources. It supplies heat to schools, businesses, municipalities, communities and neighbourhoods through wood-fired heating plants, helping customers reduce reliance on less sustainable energy sources while making use of locally available materials. Its services include designing and operating heating solutions for buildings, valorising green and wood waste, and raising awareness of sustainable development.
Guided by a commitment to people and the environment, Coopeos aims to demonstrate that energy projects can support both community interests and environmental goals. The cooperative also invites people to become members and contribute to its development. Since 2015, it reports having put 60 wood-heating plants into service, avoided 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, welcomed 330 cooperative members, and reached more than 9,000 people through awareness activities.
Based in Fernelmont, Belgium, Coopeos shares news and project updates and works with organisations seeking practical, locally rooted approaches to sustainable heat
