Emmaus Social Cooperative is a nonprofit social enterprise based in Foggia, Italy. Its first legal structure was established in 1978 by a parish group to create employment opportunities for young people facing unemployment in the Candelaro neighborhood. The cooperative later expanded its membership and broadened its work to include people experiencing social disadvantage. Today, it has 16 worker-members and 14 volunteer-members and operates as part of the wider Emmaus project, which supports young people with drug addiction, people living with advanced AIDS, and prevention initiatives in the local community.
Emmaus offers services through its dairy, educational farm, and equestrian center, and is an accredited center for animal-assisted interventions. The cooperative is listed in Italy’s national register of social cooperatives and participates in networks and organizations focused on social cooperation, ethical finance, and organic agriculture. Its work brings together employment, community support, and agricultural and animal-based activities. The cooperative’s operational site is located on Via Manfredonia, near Torre Guiducci in Foggia.
