About Co-op Radio 100.5 FM
Vancouver Co-operative Radio, CFRO, 100. 5FM is a dynamic and innovative non-profit community radio station and podcast recording studio. Our mission is to provide a voice for those who are underrepresented in mainstream media.
Established in 1975, we have been celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) through our arts, music, and spoken word programming. With over 90 unique radio show collectives, we offer 140 hours of original programming each week in over 10 languages. Our dedicated team of 300+ volunteers produce content in the areas of arts, public affairs, music, and third languages.
We strive to provide programming that challenges mainstream media coverage and includes perspectives not available elsewhere. Our public affairs programming aims to shed light on issues and events from the perspective of social movements. In the music realm, we focus on promoting local talent and rare genres, providing information about performers and genres.
Additionally, our arts programming showcases the work of local artists, highlighting contemporary social issues. Approximately 20% of our programming is in languages other than English or French, prioritizing communities that lack access to media representation. As a non-profit organization, we are supported by the Community Radio Education Society (CRES), a charity that facilitates our activities.
Donations to our station can be made through CRES, and tax receipts are issued by CRES each February. Co-op Radio is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by a dedicated staff of five, who oversee different areas of the station's operations. Decision-making is also facilitated through various committees that include programmers, community members, and staff.
At Vancouver Co-op Radio, we are proud to provide a platform for diverse voices and perspectives, empowering our community through media representation. Join us in our mission to create a more inclusive and vibrant media landscape for all
