About COPAA
The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. (COPAA) is a nonprofit organization that unites advocates to protect the civil rights of children with disabilities and their families. Its work focuses on education equity and securing high-quality education and appropriate support for students, including those covered by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504. COPAA also works on behalf of children who may qualify for services but have not yet been identified.
COPAA supports its community through membership, online resources, training, events, and opportunities to connect with fellow advocates. Members can access resource libraries, discussion groups, sample letters, checklists, case law, and other materials. The organization offers online courses, webinars, round tables, and informational sessions for parents, advocates, and attorneys seeking to strengthen their knowledge of special education law and advocacy.
At the policy and legal levels, COPAA files amicus briefs and brings systemic litigation in significant cases, while providing technical assistance to attorney members.
