Cork Centre for Independent Living (Cork CIL) is a community-based, not-for-profit disability service founded in 1996. Led by disabled people, the organisation supports people with physical and sensory disabilities across Cork to live independently and make choices about their own lives. Its team coordinates user-led support designed around each person’s needs, goals and daily routines.
Cork CIL’s Personal Assistant service provides one-to-one help with personal care, everyday tasks and getting out in the community. It is available to adults under 65 with a physical or sensory disability living in Cork city and the South Lee area. Access generally begins with an assessment and referral through a local Public Health Nurse, with applications considered by HSE Disability Services.
The Travel Club offers door-to-door, wheelchair-accessible transport across Cork for appointments, work, day services and social outings. Membership is open to people with disabilities and costs €30 per year, with a contribution also payable for each journey.
