Cornwall Breathers

Cornwall Breathers is a charity that supports people diagnosed with long-term lung conditions, including COPD, by promoting mutual support and raising awareness. It grew from a self-help group established in 2006 by seven people who wanted to maintain the benefits of NHS pulmonary rehabilitation. With NHS support, the group expanded, offering regular opportunities to share experiences and take part in gentle exercise. Its development also helped inspire similar groups in towns across Cornwall.

The charity’s website extends this approach to patients, carers and health professionals. It provides information and links on topics such as COPD, smoking, vaping, oxygen supply, respiratory nursing, treatments and exercise, including exercise videos. Visitors can also access a news archive, a bulletin board for questions and shared experiences, and resources for schools and self-help groups. Cornwall Breathers has supported community initiatives, worked with educational institutions and health organisations, and helped secure funding to establish five new local groups.
