About Corona Labs
Corona is a cross-platform 2D development framework created by Corona Labs for building games and apps from a single codebase. Using the lightweight Lua scripting language, developers can create projects for iOS and Android devices, Amazon Fire, macOS and Windows desktops, and connected TVs including Apple TV, Fire TV, and Android TV. The framework includes an instant-update Simulator for rapid testing, performance-focused graphics and compilation, and support for extending projects through plugins or native libraries and APIs.
Corona’s broader ecosystem has featured documentation, tutorials, an active developer forum, a marketplace for templates and creative assets, open-source code, and priority support. The core product was offered free, without hidden fees or royalties for its functionality. Corona Labs described its mission as enabling anyone to create great mobile apps and games. The site also records a transition away from Corona Labs, Inc. toward an open-source initiative and notes that it is no longer updated and remains online for archival purposes. Corona SDK is now known as Solar2D.
