About Canadian Ophthalmological Society
Can Ophthal Society, also known as the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), is the national authority on eye and vision care in Canada. With over 900 ophthalmologists and 200 ophthalmology residents as members, their mission is to ensure the provision of optimal medical and surgical eye care for all Canadians by promoting excellence in ophthalmology and supporting their members in practice. COS works collaboratively with government, national and international specialty societies, academic communities, provincial partners, and other eye care professionals and patient groups to advocate for health policy in Canada in the field of eye and vision health.
As an accredited provider of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), COS offers a wide range of educational opportunities to its members. They also publish the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology and present various awards for excellence and research. Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the eye.
Ophthalmologists, who are both surgical and medical specialists, diagnose and treat eye disorders using a comprehensive approach. They also provide ocular-visual assessments and may prescribe corrective lenses. COS is led by a dedicated Board of Directors and offers unique membership benefits, an Annual Scientific Meeting & Exhibition, continuing professional development services, and an awards program for outstanding achievements.
By joining COS, members can contribute their expertise, network with colleagues, and support the critical work being done to educate the public about eye health. For more information and to become a member of COS, visit their website
