Cottage Music Foundation is an Australian organisation dedicated to helping children access quality music education and supporting the teachers who deliver it. The Foundation promotes the belief that every child deserves to learn music from a well-trained teacher, while recognising that many early-childhood, primary and high school educators need further training and confidence. It supports specialist and general classroom teachers through mentoring and professional development, helping them make music part of the school day.
The Foundation also provides scholarships for talented students who need assistance with aural training and related music theory. Its scholarship support extends to university students and graduates seeking to advance their aural skills, harmony and related teaching practice in Australia or overseas.
The organisation was formed to help realise Micheál McCarthy’s vision of strengthening music teaching and supporting exceptional student talent through bursaries and scholarships. Its work builds on the history of the Cottage School of Music, founded in 1998 and now known as Cottage Music Institute, which has offered musicianship, choral training and teacher development programmes.
