Couch Potato Run Club is a beginner-first running community founded in Cape Town in May 2024. Designed for people who feel nervous, unfit or simply unenthusiastic about running, the club helps participants build confidence and fitness at a gradual, welcoming pace. Its central promise is a strict no-drop policy: nobody is left behind, and every pace is welcome.
The club’s main offering is an approximately eight-week Couch to 5km programme in South Africa and the United Kingdom. Sessions use a run-walk approach, so participants are not expected to run continuously from the outset. Members join a local group, meet regularly and progress towards completing 5km with support from coaches and fellow beginners. The programme is intended for people with little or no running experience, and there is no pressure to keep up with faster runners.
Couch Potato Run Club also hosts events, including a Silent Disco Fun Run and The Sweatshop Open Event.
