The American Counseling Association (ACA) is the largest U. S. professional organization serving counselors and counselors in training, with a community of more than 60,000 members.

It advances the counseling profession and promotes mental health and well-being through education, advocacy, inclusion, research, and professional community. ACA supports members at every career stage with continuing education, professional development, career and licensure information, practice resources, and guidance on ethics, assessment, treatment, cultural responsiveness, and counseling specialties. Its publications include books, professional resources, Counseling Today magazine, and journals covering counseling and related fields.

ACA also provides access to and interpretation of its Code of Ethics, along with practice briefs and research. Through government affairs work, the association informs policymakers, advocates on issues affecting counselors, supports state-level advocacy, and shares legislative updates, including information about the Counseling Compact. Members and other professionals can connect through conferences, continuing education events, and specialized programs, as well as access awards recognizing achievement in the field
