Court’s Corner is a sports medicine internship and mentorship program led by Dr. Courtney Watson, MS, ATC, PES, FRCms, Athletic Director of the Portland Trail Blazers. It helps students explore careers in sports medicine, athletic training, sports performance, rehabilitation, and professional athletics through hands-on learning and exposure to high-level sports environments. Drawing on Watson’s experience in professional basketball, athlete development, injury prevention, and performance, the program connects participants with practical knowledge and career guidance beyond the classroom.

Interns learn sports medicine techniques and support activities, including recovery preparation, hydration management, taping, stretching, and athlete care. They also gain exposure to live sporting events and behind-the-scenes performance operations, while developing communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. Mentorship and networking opportunities help students build relationships with professionals and peers. Court’s Corner emphasizes encouragement, confidence, and professional growth, with the aim of creating meaningful pathways into sports and healthcare careers. Its alumni include Charvette Johnson, who progressed from intern to Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Portland Trail Blazers.
