Cowie’s Cows is a family-operated, 35-acre ranch just north of Elizabeth in Elbert County, Colorado, run by Daryana and Graeme Cowie. The ranch brings together a distinctive mix of animals in a peaceful setting, including Scottish Highland cattle, goats, chickens, emus, and rare chicken breeds. With Graeme’s Scottish heritage and affection for Highland cattle, the farm also shares Scottish traditions, recipes, and humor through its Scottish Corner and blog.
Visitors can book select-day, hour-long ranch tours to meet the animals, learn about their behavior, and feed some of them. Cowie’s Cows also sells farm-fresh eggs and raises emus, whose eggs may be used for breeding, cooking, and art. The ranch is developing plans for goat cheese and other specialty products.
Alongside its farming activities, the business offers licensed, bonded, and insured dog care through Daryana’s Backyard, including daycare, boarding, grooming, door-to-door pet taxi service, and airport transfers. The ranch welcomes inquiries about visits, animal products, and pet services.
