Coyote Linux is an innovative distribution for edge firewall and networking appliances, leveraging the robust Alpine Linux as its foundation. Established in 2000, the brand has evolved from its original design, which was compact enough to fit on a single floppy disk, into a modern solution that meets contemporary security needs. Coyote Linux 4 features an immutable firmware architecture that enhances security and facilitates easy upgrades, allowing organizations to securely repurpose existing hardware into dedicated network appliances.

Key offerings include advanced firewall capabilities utilizing nftables, multiple VPN options with StrongSwan, WireGuard, and OpenVPN, as well as load balancing through HAProxy. The system is designed for minimal attack surfaces, safe rollback capabilities, and easy configuration management, resulting in a reliable and efficient network security solution. As an open-source platform, Coyote Linux encourages community collaboration and transparency, with its source code readily available on GitHub, thus fostering continuous improvement and innovation in network security technology.
