About CPI
The Communist Party of India (Marxist), commonly known as CPI(M), was established during the Seventh Congress of the Communist Party of India in Calcutta in 1964, emerging from a commitment to uphold the principles of Marxism-Leninism against revisionism and sectarianism. With a deep-rooted legacy in the anti-imperialist struggle, CPI(M) has evolved into India's leading left political force, witnessing significant growth from 118,683 members at its inception to 985,757 by 2021. CPI(M) actively promotes a comprehensive agenda aimed at dismantling exploitation by imperialist entities, the bourgeoisie, and landlords, striving for a transformation that enhances the lives of the Indian populace.
The party seeks to build a Left and democratic front to present a viable alternative to prevailing socio-economic policies. Currently, CPI(M) holds seats in both houses of Parliament, with notable governance in Kerala and a historical record in West Bengal and Tripura. Its ongoing leadership in various state assemblies, including Kerala, reflects a steadfast commitment to people's democratic revolution in India
