About The Craufurd Arms
The Craufurd Arms is a remarkable brand that stands as the 50th community owned pub in the country. This inspiring achievement is the result of a dedicated community effort to save the pub from closure and transform it into a valuable asset for the local area. The story began when the Furze Platt Action Group listed the Craufurd Arms as an Asset of Community Value, following the closure of the popular Golden Harp pub.
With the aim of preserving a vital community space, a Steering Committee was elected and the Craufurd Arms Community Group was formed. Their vision was to create a thriving, sustainable pub that showcased local real ale and cider. Engaging with the community through surveys and public meetings, the group gathered evidence and support, leading to the successful registration of their 'Right to Bid'.
With the help of organizations like the Plunkett Foundation and Our Community Enterprise, the group formed a Community Benefit Society and raised the necessary funds to purchase the pub. Their efforts received widespread support from CAMRA, local newspapers, and radio stations, resulting in a strong lobbying and influencing campaign that attracted funding from the More Than a Pub scheme and the Big Society Capital Crowdfunder Match Fund. Through the dedication of members, the brand achieved success and secured the future of the Craufurd Arms as a cherished community asset
