About at Crewkerne Museum
Crewkerne & District Museum & Heritage Centre is an independent, award-winning, volunteer-run museum in Crewkerne, Somerset. Founded in 1988, it explores the history of the town and surrounding district through multi-gallery displays, interactive exhibits, regular exhibitions and events. The museum presents Crewkerne’s past as a Saxon royal mint, a coach stop for travellers and a centre of textile industry, while also showing how local people lived and worked across different periods. Visitors can discover local history and heritage through exhibitions, a virtual tour and displays enhanced with contemporary graphic techniques.
The museum is open during the main season on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; entry is free, and donations are welcomed. It also offers group visits, room hire and disabled access. For research, the centre provides an extensive local history library and archive facility, with resources covering Crewkerne’s history, architecture and notable people, alongside publications and books.
