Cricket Builds Hope is a brand that is dedicated to bringing the sport of cricket to Rwanda and using it as a catalyst for positive change. Following the aftermath of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, thousands of individuals returned home, bringing with them a passion for cricket that they cultivated in nearby countries. Recognizing the potential for the sport to unite and rebuild communities, the Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) was established in 1999, and Rwanda became an Affiliate Member of the International Cricket Council in 2003.

The vision of Cricket Builds Hope was sparked by Christopher Shale, a British businessman and cricket enthusiast who witnessed the growing enthusiasm for the sport in Rwanda. Although he tragically passed away before he could see his vision come to life, his family and friends established the charity in his memory, with the aim of building a cricket stadium in Rwanda. Over a span of six years, Cricket Builds Hope successfully raised over £1.

25 million to fund the construction of the stadium. In October 2017, the stadium was officially opened by H. E.

Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, marking a significant milestone for cricket in the country. Cricket Builds Hope has evolved into a brand that focuses on delivering sport for change programs and working closely with the RCA to ensure the proper maintenance and operation of the stadium. The organization has supported the development of a second oval at Gahanga and has played a role in the rapid growth of cricket in Rwanda.

Cricket in Rwanda has seen remarkable progress, with over 24 clubs and 150,000 players, including children from over a hundred schools. The women's game, in particular, has thrived, with the U19 women's national team qualifying for Rwanda's first world cup in 2022. Cricket Builds Hope continues to expand its social programs, with initiatives such as an Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Program in the pipeline.
