Crip Camp Film

Crip Camp is a brand that aims to revolutionize the way we perceive and include people with disabilities. Their powerful film, Crip Camp | A Disability Revolution, tells the inspiring story of a group of teenagers with disabilities who found liberation and full inclusion at Camp Jened in the 1970s. This camp, once labeled as for the handicapped, became a freewheeling utopia where campers experienced true freedom and bonded with one another.

The film captures a pivotal moment in time when friends from Camp Jened migrated to Berkeley, California, and realized that political participation, civil disobedience, and disruption can change the future for millions. However, Crip Camp acknowledges that there are numerous other important stories from the Disability Rights Movement that have not yet received adequate attention. They are dedicated to using their platform to amplify those narratives, particularly those surrounding people of color and intersectionally marginalized communities.

In addition to their impactful film, Crip Camp also hosted a virtual camp experience in 2020 called Crip Camp 2020: The Virtual Experience. This 15-week event featured trailblazing speakers from the disability community and attracted nearly 10,000 participants, showcasing the power of accessibility for all. Crip Camp is committed to broadening the number of voices and sharing the mic to ensure no one is left behind or excluded
