The Cyber Security Researchers of Waikato (CROW) is a research group at the University of Waikato that focuses on returning control of data to data owners through user-centric data security research. With the rise of cloud computing and increased mobile device usage, traditional cyber security methods are becoming less effective. CROW's Cyber Security Laboratory is dedicated to developing fundamental algorithms and innovative solutions that enable users to understand the history and evolution of their data, known as data provenance.

These solutions also support data leakage prevention, detection of malicious insiders in cloud computing environments, and behavior-based malware detection. The laboratory utilizes a large-scale cloud computing test bed for realistic testing and verification of their tools. Additionally, CROW is committed to preserving the privacy and utility of data, exploring techniques for processing encrypted data in servers without decryption.
