Crusty Barnacles is a community-focused open water swimming group based on Boston’s South Shore, centered on regular ocean swims at Nantasket Beach. Its website shares seasonal swim updates, local conditions, meeting times, photographs, and practical information for swimmers, from first-timers to experienced ocean enthusiasts. Members are encouraged to swim together, bring a friend, and make informed decisions about safety, weather, and water conditions.
The group’s activities include informal weekend swims, often scheduled for early mornings, with meetups timed to enjoy calmer conditions and avoid beach crowds. Its resources and routes help people explore open water swimming in the area, while posts discuss topics such as changing sea temperatures, seasonal swim openings, and responsible swimming practices. Crusty Barnacles also offers community-branded swim caps, with designs created to commemorate local swims and beach experiences. Rather than presenting a formal training program or commercial swimming service, the brand promotes shared outdoor recreation and connection with the ocean.
