Cryptii is an educational and productive web application that offers a fresh and interactive way to explore cryptography, ciphers, and data. It was developed by Wierk with the aim of making these subjects more approachable to everyone. Ciphereditor is the successor to Cryptii, a project that was initiated in 2009.
One of the major improvements in Ciphereditor is the switch from a one-dimensional pipeline to a two-dimensional canvas. This allows for more flexibility in placing and connecting operations, similar to a spreadsheet. The application is built with extensibility in mind, with operations representing ciphers and algorithms developed separately from the app itself in the form of extensions.
This opens up possibilities for third-party developers to introduce new extensions, expanding the capabilities of Ciphereditor. One of the most requested features by Cryptii users, the ability to save and share work, is already available in Ciphereditor. Users can save their work and share it with others via files or links.
Fränz Friederes is the creator and main contributor of both Ciphereditor and Cryptii. He is supported by Open Source contributors on GitHub. With a background in computer science and interaction design, Fränz founded Wierk and developed Ciphereditor to provide a comprehensive tool for cryptography, coding, and data exploration
