The Centro Piemontese di Studi Africani (CSA), or Centre for African Studies, is a multidisciplinary organization based in Turin, Italy. Founded in 1983 on the initiative of local public institutions, it was established by the Piedmont Region, the Province of Turin, the Municipality of Turin, and the University of Turin, which are also its founding members and funders. The Centre’s purpose is to deepen understanding of Piedmont’s and Italy’s relationships with the African continent.
CSA supports this work through conferences, public events, research projects, and educational and cultural activities. Its current projects address water diplomacy and sustainability in the Niger River, Lake Chad basin, and Nile River; museums and cultural heritage; rights, migration, and international relations; and the role of diasporas. The organization also maintains a library and provides access to news, media, documents, and information about its work. Its activities draw on staff, occasional collaborators, and interns, including placements connected with regional, Italian, and international institutions and universities.
