CSD Bangladesh, or the Canteen Stores Department of Bangladesh, operates under the Ministry of Defence. Established after Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, it continued under a board of control headed by the Quarter Master General of the Bangladesh Army. Its primary purpose is to provide entitled members of the Armed Forces with standard-quality everyday goods at reasonable prices.
The department serves customers through a network of general and exclusive shops, including super shops, and offers a broad range of services and business ventures. These include catering, cafes, a bakery, a medicine shop, a filling station, travel services, money exchange, trading, and agro and farming projects. CSD also provides food for large public events: it supplied lunch boxes to participants and organizers at national celebrations associated with Guinness record initiatives in 2013 and 2014.
Its head office is located at CSD Tower in Dhaka Cantonment. Through its retail operations and related services, CSD Bangladesh supports eligible military personnel while also serving shoppers through its various outlets.
