CSEdWeek is an annual event that aims to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, promote equity in computer science education, and recognize the contributions of students, teachers, and partners in the field. It was founded in 2009 and has since grown into a global movement.
The first CSEdWeek was led by ACM, with support from organizations like CSTA, NCWIT, Google, Intel, and Microsoft. It was designed to raise awareness about the importance of computer science education and its role in shaping future careers.
Over the years, CSEdWeek has evolved and expanded its reach. In 2010, it became an activity of Computing in the Core, a coalition dedicated to elevating computer science education in K-12 schools. Code.org joined in 2013 and introduced the "Hour of Code" theme, which has since become a centerpiece of the event.
Today, CSEdWeek continues to grow, with CSTA taking the lead in coordinating the event. The theme for this year's celebration is "#CelebratingProgress," highlighting the advancements made in computer science education while acknowledging the work that still needs to be done to ensure equal opportunities for all students.
Join the CSEdWeek community and be part of this exciting movement towards a more inclusive and accessible computer science education. Together, we can empower and inspire the next generation of computer scientists.
