The Council of State Governments (CSG) is the largest nonpartisan organization in the United States dedicated to serving state elected and appointed officials. Founded in 1933, CSG's mission is to champion excellence in state government and they strive to achieve this through four major platforms. Firstly, the CSG National Office, located in Lexington, Kentucky, acts as a hub for national projects, publications, and special initiatives that foster collaboration and community between elected and appointed officials from all states and territories.

It is home to the CSG Center of Innovation, the CSG National Center for Interstate Compacts, Capitol Ideas magazine, and the CSG Henry Toll Fellowship national leadership development program. Secondly, CSG has regional offices across the country, known as CSG East, CSG Midwest, CSG South, and CSG West. These offices allow state officials to connect on shared geographically-based issues and host conferences, in-state visits, and leadership development programs.

Thirdly, the CSG Justice Center brings together state and local officials, as well as subject matter experts, to discuss challenges and best practices in policy areas related to public safety and justice. The center aims to strengthen communities by addressing these issues. Lastly, CSG works with 11 national organizations of state officials.

These affiliated organizations contribute specialized expertise, information, and resources to support CSG's overall mission. With over 80 years of service, the Council of State Governments is committed to connecting, informing, inspiring, and empowering public servants in all three branches of state government.
