About CSLP
CSLP (Collaborative Summer Library Program) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy, education, and science through summer reading events in public libraries across the United States. With a mission to develop interest in reading and library use, CSLP supports the implementation of summer reading programs nationwide, along with public service announcements and other activities to encourage reading. By collaborating with libraries, CSLP offers a range of resources and materials that can be purchased at discounted rates.
These include posters, reading logs, bookmarks, certificates, and various reading incentives. Participants can access the same artwork, incentives, and publicity, as well as a comprehensive manual of programming and promotional ideas. CSLP originated in 1987 when regional library systems in Minnesota created a summer library program for children.
Over the years, more state libraries and systems have joined, reinforcing the organization's goal of librarians sharing ideas, expertise, and costs to deliver a high-quality summer reading program for everyone. By joining CSLP, libraries gain access to a wealth of resources and support to enhance their summer reading initiatives
