Clean Tech Aviation (CTA) is a research and development organization focused on sustainable technologies for the aviation and maritime industries. Supported by European Union regional funding and Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN), CTA brings together industry professionals, science institutes, and international network partners to develop solutions intended to reduce operating costs and emissions. CTA’s work centers on general, business, and transport aviation, including retrofitting existing aircraft engines and auxiliary power units (APUs). Its development areas include liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel systems, storage tanks, gasification, and hybrid APUs. For inland shipping, CTA is developing an LNG-powered hybrid APU designed to supply electricity to onboard electric engines. The organization also describes a planned second-stage approach combining cryogenic energy injection with combustion.
