About Society for Cultural Anthropology
The Society for Cultural Anthropology (SCA) is a professional society dedicated to advancing creative research and critical conversation in anthropology. It examines and challenges the boundaries of the discipline by sharing scholarship, convening conversations, and recognizing notable work. The society is the largest section of the American Anthropological Association and offers membership, mailing-list updates, events, and programs for its community.
SCA publishes Cultural Anthropology, a journal featuring ethnographic writing shaped by varied theoretical approaches and experimental forms. Its digital companion, Fieldsights, presents timely interventions through essays, podcasts, and multimedia. Fieldsights includes contributions from editors and members, as well as formats such as AnthroPod, teaching tools, visual and new media reviews, supplementals, and thematic features including Hot Spots and Theorizing the Contemporary.
The society also organizes conferences and invites proposals for collaborative projects, including podcast series. Through its publications, events, prizes, and educational resources, SCA supports the exchange of ideas and the development of innovative anthropological work.
