About Cultural Intellectual Property Rights Initiative
The Cultural Intellectual Property Rights Initiative (CIPRI) is a worldwide movement dedicated to recognizing and protecting the cultural intellectual property rights of craftsmen and women who preserve traditional garments, designs, and manufacturing techniques. Founded in April 2018, the initiative aims to eliminate culturally appropriative behavior in the fashion industry and establish a system that nurtures, sustains, and safeguards traditional knowledge and cultural expressions. Acting as a mediator, CIPRI fosters relationships between stakeholders in the fashion and craft ecosystem and promotes cultural sustainability through education and the preservation of cultural heritage.
CIPRI offers various services, including legal and cultural sustainability consulting, workshops, education projects, and the Cultural IP Month. By advocating for the recognition of cultural intellectual property rights, CIPRI strives to create a more equitable and inclusive fashion industry
