Cum Grano Salis is a Swiss association dedicated to exploring and sharing the history of salt in the Chablais vaudois region. Founded following the creation of the Sentier du Sel, it brings local heritage to life through research, publications, educational activities and guided experiences. Its work has received recognition including the Prix Jean Thorens d’Histoire and a jury award for a book about the people who worked in the salt industry.
The association’s principal attraction is the Sentier du Sel, an accessible educational trail that traces the region’s connection with salt, known as “white gold.” Visitors can follow it independently or join costumed guides. Cum Grano Salis also offers activities for groups and schools, themed animations, and guided visits to Bex-les-Bains that explore local history and notable sites. Its website provides practical trail information, including access, stages, viewpoints, picnic areas and places of interest.
Publications include “Drôle de sel !,” a lighthearted collection of 41 jokes that also shares information about salt.
