Cambridge University Rifle Association (CURA) is an official University of Cambridge sports club and registered charity, established in 1860. One of Cambridge’s oldest varsity sports, it is a fullbore rifle club focused primarily on long-range shooting. CURA competes against Oxford in annual summer Varsity matches in Target Rifle and Match Rifle disciplines, and also takes part in national competitions against universities and clubs. The association has a strong record, including 117 Chancellors’ victories and 81 Humphry trophies, and its members have represented their counties and countries.
Training takes place at the National Shooting Centre in Bisley, Surrey, where new and returning members receive coaching from CURA alumni and friends, including national and Great Britain coaches. Membership is open to all, with basic smallbore rifle competence required. Members can access club rifles, jackets, mats and other equipment, and are encouraged to compete at events such as the NRA Imperial Meeting and Sovereign’s Prize.
