Credit Valley Conservation is a brand that focuses on protecting and preserving the natural beauty of the Credit Valley Trail. One of their exciting projects is the construction of the Crane Gathering Space at Island Lake Conservation Area in Orangeville. This space is a significant Indigenous cultural feature that aims to bring Indigenous culture and experiences to life along the trail.

The vision for the Crane Gathering Space was developed in collaboration with the Indigenous Roundtable, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and Smoke Architecture Inc. It takes inspiration from Anishinaabe culture with animal dodems representing different clans. The Crane Dodem symbolizes the clans and acts as an announcer for things to come.

Once completed in August 2022, the Crane Gathering Space will serve as a space to nurture connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. It will also provide a venue for Indigenous ceremonial practices and offer unique recreational experiences. Additionally, it will be accessible to the public, serving as a site for innovative educational opportunities.
